Physical Memory

I have a new db2 server and we are moving to V8. The box is running
W2K and has 12 gig of memory. The operating system is only showing 4
gig of it and that is one thing but when I pulled up the configuration
advisor from control center when it asked how much of the physical
memory to use for DB2 it only showed me 2048 not even the 4 gig the os
sees. I thought that Version 8 was past the 2 gig limit? I installed
fix pack 5 but still dont' see any more memory. Am I missing
something?

Thanks

You would need the 64 bit version of DB2 on a 64 bit operating system. Some
versions of W2K can go higher than 2MB, such as Advanced Server, but not as
high as a 64 bit system.

User processes on Windows can only see 2 Gb on Windows, because the kernel
reserves the first 2 Gb of address space. If you use the /3GB switch,
the address space is changed such that the kernel only reserves 1 Gb,
leaving 3 Gb for user processes (i.e. DB2).

You can use memory above 4 Gb if you use AWE (via the /PAE switch in
boot.ini).

What version of Windows are you running? I thought that Windows 2000
Advanced Server only supports up to 8 Gb RAM -- you need Windows 2000
DataCenter Server to be able to use more.
