Hrishy,

SQLPL was introducted in DB2 UDB for Intel/UNIX V7.1. It is based on the
SQL PSM standard. I would say that your decision on what language to
build stored procs in should depend upon your application requirements.
Don't think FORTRAN is very widely used. SQLPL and C/C++ much more
common (also Java). I am not an expert in Stored procs, but there may be
requirements that can be addressed in one that can't be addressed in the
other.

SQL Procedures were introduced on DB2 for Multiplaforms in V7.1
Earlier on DB2 for iSeries.
I wouldn't know hwta was teh prevalent language for procedures prior to
that, but in my personal experience SQL PL has become the default language.
You should also learn C/C++ however because using SQL PL makes only
sense if you truly do SQL. For pure logic C/C++ is unbeatable from a
performance point of view.

Hrishy,

I would suggest you look at SQL PL and C++. Also if you have not seen
Developerworks then I would suggest that you have a look at
http://www-136.ibm.com/developerworks/ there is a section for people that
are new to DB2 as well as many tutorials and samples.
