autotools and versions

Hello!

I'm moving my projects from hand written Makefiles to automake/autoconf
and I have a problem with closing versions.
I have in my Makefile special target "release" which generates final
version of project. It:
- increases version number,
- make clean
- make all
- make package
Where make package creates DEB package of my project.

It there some "right way" to do the same with autoconf/automake ?
How can I add my special targets in Makefile.am (or may be somewhere
else?), so they will call my own scripts, which will send DEB package to
repository ?

best regards
Jarek

This is not a C language question, you need to ask somewhere that
automake and autoconf are topical. I suggest you check out the GNU
mailing lists and various Linux groups and lists to find somewhere
appropriate.
