Help with WM_DROPFILES

Hi, I created a dialog box in BC++. Now, I have a edit box where I can input text.
I gave it property of accepting files by using the resource editor.Now the problem is
if I drag files in to it,the mouse pointer changes but no filename is seen in the edit box. I somewhere read about WM_DROPFILES but I don't have any idea of how to implement it. I have a switch case as shown below.

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. switch(msg)
  2. {
  3. case WM_INITDIALOG:SetDlgItemText(hwnd,IDC_TEXT,"");
  4.                                    break;
  5. case WM_COMMAND://Some statements
  6.                                   break;
  7. case WM_CLOSE:EndDialog(hwnd,0);
  8.                             break;
  9. case default:return FALSE;
  10. }
  11. return TRUE;
  12. }
.

Where should I put the WM_DROPFILES command and how can I get the filename to be printed on the edit box IDC_TEXT.
Pleasee

If you want your editbox to accept dropped files then that is not the place you need to handle the WM_DROPFILES message. You need to handle it in the edit boxes windows message handler. This means you ill need to sub-class the edit box (in the Windows sense not in the C++ sense).

To sub-class a window what you do is once you have created it you replace it's windows message handler with one you have created yourself (it is normal to keep a pointer to the old one so that in your new message handler function you can handle the extra messages you need to and call the previous handler for any messages you aren't interested in.

So you need to
  1. Write a windows message handler that handles WM_DROPFILES and passes all other messages onto the previous handler
  2. In WM_INITDIALOG use GetWindowLong and SetWindowLong to get a pointer to the old edit box handler and to set you new edit box handler.
