extracting value from datarow

I am trying to compare a value from a datarow with
another value.

In debug mode, the values either side of the comparison
statement are exactly the same, but when the code runs it
skips over the code i put inside the if statement. What
am i doing wrong??

if(dr["Start"].ToString() ==
DateTime.MaxValue.ToShortDateString())
{
//do stuff here
}
