Stopping the sending of a windows message on a base control.

I'm working on a overriding a control and it has been going very well, with
the exception of it's design-time support. I discovered that the base
control's WndPrc method is calling SetWindowRgn to change the painting
region during design time. I would like to stop it from making this call,
but have been unsuccessful because it is made by the base WndPrc and I still
have to call that for my control to work.

My question is:

is there a way I can stop this call from being made that I'm not aware of?
or
Is there a way I can interecept this outbound message from the control and
change the region to my liking?
Thanks,

Jacob
