Macro in VS.NET

Hi i had been wondering since i came back from teched 2004,

what is the purpose for us to create macros within vs.net?

Why can't i use visual studio add-in or VSIP to do all the integration with
vs.net?

Why macro again? I know the usage of macro in c++, but again not too sure
about in vs.net 2003.

Any help?
