C# Identity

What is the difference between following two declaration? One is defined with SupportClass.Identy() & another is without

private byte[] anyname = new byte[]{(byte) (0x34), (byte) (0xC7), (byte) (015), (byte) (0xCD), (byte) (0xBF), (byte) (0xD2), (byte) (0x26)}

private byte[] anyname = new byte[]{(byte) (0x34), (byte) (0xC7), (byte) (015), (byte) SupportClass.Identity(0xCD), (byte) SupportClass.Identity(0xBF), (byte) SupportClass.Identity(0xD2), (byte) (0x36)}

Where SupportClass.Identity is as follow
public static long Identity(long literal

return literal
Why I would need this kind of Identity function, that does nothing
