Explicit layout of structures in netCF

I am trying to specify an explicit layout for my C# structures using the compact .net framework for smart devices. Everything is fine if building a desktop app - the compiler accepts [FieldOffset(x)] everything is fine. But if I use the same program statements and select netCF as my target the compilers throws errors at me about missing namespaces and other things. Does anyone know of limitations of explicit struct layout targeting smart devices? I have worked arround this using pointers and offsets in an unsafe code block but would like to use C# native constructs
I thank you for any advice you can give on this
