DataTable.OnRecordChange event?

J
How can one tell if a user has changed db records when viewing data in a
dataTable?

I would like to have a grid with the parent records, and when a user selects
a parent record, have the detail fields display. I'm not talking about a
Dataset.DataRelation object (have seen too many users select all, or
hundreds, of the master records, and having to get all the details for all
the masters at once is silly and impractical).

In the above example, one could use the dataGrid.Scroll event, but
1) That approach seems generally wrong, it ties the user interface into the
code for getting data
2) What if I am not using a dataGrid, but something else, or no UI control
at all
