After applying the KB Automatic Update #833987 (JPEG
Security Issue), our development server suddenly will not
allow any IIS 6.0 App Pool running with identity set to
ASPNET to run. The Event Viewer shows the following trace
from the Application Log:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: W3SVC
Event Category: None

I have an application that allows a user to enter a user name, user password, and the domain or machine name. From this information I would like to verify the user account and password is valid. This must work for either a domain or a local machine account. I have tried to find examples from the web and it seems every example that I have found does not work or produces odd results.
I have tested each of these on Windows 2000, Windows XP,...

Does anyone know how to determine if the guest account is disabled on a
remote computer on the server? I was thinking I could read a registry key to
do it, but I do not know if such a key exists. Below is code showing how I
determine if CTRL+ALT+DEL is required to logon to the remote machine using
the registry. If it is not required then I change the key to make it
required. I was hoping I could do something similar for the guest account....

On a Win2000 domain controller, the ASPNET (v1.1) worker process
(aspnet_wp.exe) runs under the IWAM_machinename (IIS 5) account NOT the
ASPNET account.
(I know domain controllers shouldn't run in this config - it is only a test
machine)
Why does the IWAM_machinename registry hive remain loaded evan after
IISReset (which kills aspnet_wp.exe)?

I need to access the scheduler service on a network computer in order to manipulate it remotely from .NET; I have all of the necessary code to perform the manipulation and it works - great - but I am having problems with authentication.
I have tried using LogonUser and this works fine with a domain account, however it is not possible to use this with an account that is defined only on the remote computer - it only works with local or domain...

Does anyone know how to retreive the logon account username for a
particular windows service? Or the current user that is running this
service as a process. C# is the prefered language of choice.
Apparently, the managed classes don't seem to offer this easily (and
for good reason). However, I would think there is a way to do this
with an unmanaged call, but not sure where to start.
Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.

Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
