How to charge money for your application

I want to sell a VB application I am making.

I want to be able to publish it using the Visual Studio publish tool. and I
want to charge money for the application. How do I charge for it, is there a
standard way of doing this?

Presumably at some point in time you have purchased software and paid for
it. How did you do it?

There are many different marketing models for software, as I'll assume you
know. Retail distribution, internet sales, offering the software as
shareware or trial ware, having a publisher package/distribute it (if a
publisher accepts it), etc.
You should consider two significant factors: how well are you known as a
software author/publisher, and how well is your product known? If you and
your product are unknown and you don't have deep pockets, shareware via a
web download site seems like a likely place to start.

I am sure there are many other similar sites.
