Add Web Reference - The directory name is invalid

I have created a solution in Visual Studio 2005 with a web service
project and a windows application.
I m trying to add this service as a web reference to the windows app.
In the Add Web Reference dialog box, for URL I have something like this
http://localhost:1184/Test/ws2005/TestWS2005.asmx. Also tried this by
browsing other web services on the local machine.

The list - Web Services found at this URL : reads The directory name is
invalid.
The Add Reference button is disabled
Tried the same steps in Visual Studio 2003 and I m able to add the web
reference. The web services displays the list of services.

anyone has some clue on why I might be getting this message.
