connection objects and compontents 2.0

I'm still getting used to 2.0 and vs2005. I have tried to create most of my
data readers and other reusuable objects in a series of components in 1.1. In
vs 2003 i was able to just drag a connection object onto the designer and
this allowed me to just call an instance of when i needed to connect to the
database like the following dim cmd as sqlcommand =
me.sqlConnection1.createcommand
but in vs2005 nothing seems to be available in my tool box when i create a
component, nor is there a "designer" area for components. I know i'm missing
something basic here how is this done in 2.0/vs2005? So far i've used the
connection string in the webconfig, but all else i've has to do by hand.
including the creation of connection objects.
