not getting started

P: n/a
Hello
A while ago, I was writing html and asp, practicing using the PWS. When it came to try it out with the IIS, I never opened a page. I moved on to other things, and now with half of what I'd done forgotten and a different install, I'm trying again to load a page, with IIS. I mentioned forgetting, because the problem could be the code, or any other number of things
First, I installed the IIS, in 'Add\Remove', put a folder, with the pages in wwwroot, opened the browser and entered 'http://localhost/FolderName/PageName.asp'. I get a server application error. The System Event Log, with Event ID # 36 and source W3SVC, says
'the server failed to load application /LM/W3SVC/1/Root/FolderName'. The error was 'Class not registered'
What would be the first step in troubleshooting, run basic code? Or is the answer in the log?
