Merging rows with common values into a query based on that value

1 New Member
Hello,

I am new at Access and I am looking to streamline my non-profit organization's record keeping to keep up with state requirements.

I have two tables: One with all of my members and other of all training taken. The tables are linked with member's staff numbers.

The ultimate goal of this database is to determine if members have the required training based on certain state requirements. So if the state says we need all members to have training classes 1, 2, & 3 for certification A or classes 2, 3, 4 for certification 2, I can run build a query and generate a report instead of going through each member's file.

I am having an issue creating a query to do this:

memberID training
------------------------
201 Class 1
201 Class 2
201 Class 3
202 Class 1
202 Class 2
202 Class 3
203 Class 1
204 Class 1

memberID Class 1 Class 2 Class 3
-------------------------------------------------------
201 Class 1 Class 2 Class 3
202 Class 1 Class 2 Class 3
203 Class 1
204 Class 1

Any help would be appreciated. Thank You!

Try doing a Cross Tab Query in which the Member ID is the Row Heading, the Class Number if the Column Heading. You could also use the MemberID as the Table Value.

It should produce your desired results.
