Microsoft Access 2007

Ok, so i'm new to this and don't know where to begin. Here's what i'm trying to do. I work for an online shoe store. We ship out anywhere from 300-1200 orders in a day. What i'm trying to do is make a tracking database on excel or access (which ever one is easiest) to track which packages are on what pallet.

A run down of the process. The order is packed at our packing station. A UCC128 barcode is printed with the costumers information, product, ect. The completed order then get's boxed and UPS label put on the box. The box is then sent on a conveyor to where it is then taken off the conveyor to be put on a pallet. The pallets typically hold around 50-100 boxes(orders) depending on the size of box.

Heres where the database comes in that i want to create. If someone cancels i am then given a piece of paper with the costumers info on it to try and track it down on what ever pallet it may be on. It's pretty time consuming. So i want to be able to scan the UCC128 barcode to a specific pallet. So lets say this. box comes off conveyor i then that box, scan ucc128 then scan pallet and place box on said pallet and so forth.

I want to be able to go back into the database and be able to use that UCC128 code and search for the said box and know exactly where that box would be on what pallet. Make sense? If anyone could help i would greatly appreciate the info. Sorry if this is rambling or too long. I'm just a newbie at this and trying to learn.

Thanks

In very simple terms you need 3 tables in an Access Database one holds the Palette Information (number, location, etc.), one holds the order information (number, Customer, etc.) the third associates the Palette with the Order.

In reality this may be a little more complex because when you identify the customer information in the Order table where is that information coming from but this is what Access does best. I hope this helps.
