VBA - Open a file with Shell if the filename contains a blank?

675 Contributor
I want to open a file in WordPad from Access. This code works correctly.
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. Private Sub cmdOpenRTF_Click()
  2. Dim stAppName As String
  3.     stAppName = "C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\WordPad.exe " & "D:\Convert\Convert.rtf"
  4.     Call Shell(stAppName, vbNormalFocus)
  5. End Sub
  6.
However, if the filename (or folder name) contains a blank, I get the non-trappable error "Failed to open document." No message number.
How can I open a file with Shell if the filename contains a blank?

Use the double-quotes format OB.
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. stAppName = "My silly space filled filename.Blx"
  2. stAppName = "C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\WordPad.exe """ & stAppName & """"
