help with access

I want to copy an access database program from desktop to my laptop to use the same functionality icluding all the records and data already entered on my desktop. How do I accomplish that feat.

If you don't own a copy of Access for your laptop you will need to install the run-time version (which does not allow development but does allow running of Access database files). For Access 2007 see the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

You will need to copy the Access database file to your laptop and copy it back to your desktop afterwards, to avoid the two ending up with different data. This is not an ideal way to use Access, as it is likely you will make mistakes in copying versions of your database to and from your laptop.

I have access on both computers< I would like to carry my laptop with me to the convention with all the information I inputted on desktop. I actually had an earlier post which I have copied and pasted below just to provide some insight.

I am new to access, I had someone create a program(convention registration) in access that allows me to keep registrants, their data within the database and the program works wonderfully. Unfortunately, my friend passed away and I would like to copy entire program from my desktop to my laptop and I would also like to create a new year, I have all the registrants from 2007-2009, whenever a previously registered individual registers for the next year I can access his information from the previous year all I have to dois add his current payment method. Any new registrant I have to fill in all the fields in order to enter them in the database. I also have a tab for each year I need to create a tab for 2010 with the appropriate fields.

Sorry, but there is no way we can assist with the tasks you mention. You would need to employ assistance from a developer or some other person who can give hands-on assistance with data loading, transfer etc which we cannot do.

Good luck with your project.

If this is a simple Access program, consisting of a single MDB file, simply copy it from one computer to the other.

If there are linked tables, or external files such as images, the file structures and names must be the same on both computers. This includes the drive letter(s).

If you cannot copy any files between computers, then this is not an Access problem, but an Operating System or a Network problem.

Warning: If you have 2 copies of the program, DO NOT make changes in both copies without first copying again, from the changed copy to the unchanged version. It becomes very difficult to avoid losing changes or data.

I use "Drag and Drop" between my Laptop (Vista) with my Desktop(XP). Default action is "Copy" when moving to different computer or moving to different drive on same computer for both Vista and XP.
Default action is "Move" if source and target are on the same drive.
Defalt actions can be overwritten by various combinations of the Ctrl and/or Shift keys while dropping. The only time I get a Shortcut is if I hold down both the Ctrl and Shift keys when dropping.
