set the record source for a main form from a sub form

52 New Member
Hello again

Simple one, I hope probably just a yes or no.

I've got a single main form with a continuous subform which has more or less the same info in (the idea being that the main form is for input and the subform is like an embeded dynamic report on a departments spending for a given period).

what I would like to know is, is it possible to pass the ID from the subform back up to the main form, where the viewer can see more detail about the particular order.

I'm sorry if this has been cover in previous posts but I couldn't phrase a search to get the result.

I'm running office 2007, DB is 2003 and os Xp.

It's possible, but I'm not clear what you are expecting to do with data passed. Do you want to update a control? Do you want to update a variable? Do you want to change the selection criteria of both forms going forward?

I'm not very up on the jargon sorry. all I want to do is get the ID for a given record from the sub form so I can build some SQL to get a single record recordset which will display in the main form where all of the detail will show.

The sub and main form are more or less unrelated.

OK. Let me know if you find what you want in Referring to Items on a Sub-Form.
