Adding Attachments

18 New Member
I need to link attachments to each record. Some records will have multiple attachments.

I have a form with Issue_ID, description, Filepath (this is a hyperlink) and a browse button.

My problem is, the attachments are not saving.

The Attachments table is as follows:

ID (Autonumber for the attachment)
Description (memo)
Filepath (hyperlink)
Issue_ID (number)

I'm still pretty new to Access and would really appreciate if someone could help me out with this.

Thank you in advance

Hey lrw0831, Welcome to Byte,

Since, you didn't provide a great deal of detail in order to figure out your problem, I can only give you an general answer, and that is that filepath (Hyperlink) isn't going to save the file into the table at all. It's only going to store the text that you put into it, and that's all. I'm assuming that you're wanting to put into the field, that location of a file that is assocated with the current Issue, and you can do that, but I'm not sure as to how you're wanting this information to work within the database, and/or application that you're developing?

as for dealing with addtional attachments, you would simply add another field into the table that would allow for another attachment to be store in that addtional field as well.

The other option would be is to create a sub table that would allow you to add an many attachments as you wished, based on the record ID of the parent record. That would require a bit of redesign on your part to make that happen.

If you can provide more detailed information, the more detailed answer(s) I would be able to give you.

Hope that helps,

Joe P.

The database is used to track issue that we receive from each client. We have a main issue for that is where the main information is entered. We would like another form that will link file names to each record. One record could have many attachments though.

Supposed Client X has an open issue and they sent me an email with 2 attachments and also I have created a document regarding this issue.

I need to be able to add each file name to this one issue. I would like the file name to be a hyperlink so I can click on it and open the document. Would a list box be the best way to save multiple filenames for one issue?

I have been able to figure out the "Browse" button that will open "My Computer" so I can search for documents. But once I select a document I'm not able to save it to a specific record, or multiple attachment

Everyone that is using this database knows the store the documents in a specific folder on the public folder. But i've also heard that there is a way to make a copy of it from your local machine and save it to another folder. At this point i'm not sure that we need that.

Please let me know if there is any more information that you need.

Thank you
