Problem with an exported access report to excel

13 New Member
I'm trying to export an access report to excel and have run into a problem. One of my fields is a text field and when it is exported to excel some of the data values show up correctly and some are given by a serial number (date format). Here is my data

067-02
067-01
196-00

196-00 appears correctly but 067-02 and 067-01 are converted to a serial date number. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

Another report generated consists of:
061-00
065-00
These text strings appear correctly in the exported excel sheet.

Thanks for any insight.

I don't know how helpful you'll find this, as I'm not aware of a way to force this behaviour onto Excel. You could try reformatting the column after opening it in Excel, but no guarantees there.

What I would suggest though is that exporting a formatted display (report) into Excel, although supported, is not an ideal way to transfer the information (Being as diplomatic as I can here).

If you have a report in Access, it's almost certainly more useful to export the underlying data-source itself. Excel can handle pretty well any fiddling of the data that a report can anyway, and you're more likely to want to work with the raw data anyway (far more predictable and reliable).
