Dot operator gives reference to object property/method.
Bang operator gives reference to collection member.

You are confused bkz Form_<form name> object contains Controls collection which is the default property, so
Me![control name] is actually Me.Controls![control name]
Pay attention, ! gives reference to a control - member of Controls collection

additionally Form_<form name> object contains property for each control returning that particular control, so
Me.[control name] is a reference to [control name] property returning corresponding control object (just a function created specially to return one particular member of controls collection, just like shortcut).
