Data entry form shows records

I have a main form with a subform and a second subform nested to the first subform. The data entry property for all three forms (main, subform and sub-subform) is set to "yes" because I am intending this form to be used for data entry only. The main form has a combo box from which the user can select a lake. The first subform allows the user to enter survey data for the lake. The sub-subform allows the user to enter additional (plant species) data about the survey.

My problem is that I can't figure out how to keep this form data entry only. It opens as data entry, but as soon as the user selects a lake on the main form, the subforms populate with records from a previous survey, instead of staying data entry only, even though I'm absolutely positive that their data entry properties are set to "yes".

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what's happening here as setting the subform to Data Entry Yes shouldn't allow existing records to filter. Did you open each of the subforms as a separate form and check that the data entry was set to yes that way?

Hi,

I am posting as trawled the interned for an answer and could not find one; I note I am not the only person to have this problem!

The problem in my case appeared to be the query I had which fed an unbound combo box and ALSO the fields on the master form. The subform, set to data entry, would always revert to "no" and retrieve existing records when a value in the combo box was selected, rather than creating a new record using that value (in my case, a staff ID). Frustrating!

Solution was as follows:

1) Create a new master form and select the records directly from the tables using SQL to modify any fields (e.g. joining name & surname) within the form's record source (essentially writing the query in the form).
2) Add a combo box (I used my query as the source for this)
3) Insert subform and set data entry to "yes"

and voila, it stayed as "yes" no problem.

I hope anyone with same problem finds this useful!

keywords: "data entry" "ms access" "data entry not working" "data entry turning off" "data entry resetting" "subform"

I found adding the following line of code to the On Load event of the data entry form solved this issue for me:

DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdRecordsGoToNew
