I have created an access database to allow us to enter the data from a
short survey we did at work..
we only need this for less than a week to allow us to do the entry, so
it doesn't need any security and I have not set any up (except that we
all have login ids and passwords to get onto the network)
I split the database into a front end (data entry form) and a back end
(data table).. so that all three of us in the office can work on the
data entry..
I talked to my networking guru who said that using software over the
network would work best if we were all logged into the same workgroup,
same user, same password.. so I set that up.. (however, that is not the
user name that I used to create the database)
I can use the database on my system fine, using either my original
username or the new one..
we've copyied the front end database to both my co-worker's computers,
however, when either of them tries to log in to the shared workgroup,
and open the database, Access won't let them relink the table to the
form, saying "the path is incorrect or we need permission to link to the
file"
the path is not incorrect.. we are showing it exactly where the back
end sets..
I downloaded the Access security article from MS site (19 pages)
virtually none of which I understand..
can you help me wade through all the possibilities and find out what
might make this work??
Helen (pretty comfy with Access but pretty confused with the networking
stuff)
