Emulate Network Drive

Hi All,

I have a front end / back end MS Access DB at my workplace. When linking the
front-to-back ends in the Linked Table Manager, I specify the network
location of the backend as \\servername\sharename\backendname.mdb, which
works fine.

However, I want to do some development at home but I don't want to have to
keep re-linking the tables (this is time consuming as there's actually more
than one backend .mdb file). Is there a way I can emulate the network path
on my local (XP) PC? IE map a local folder to the
\\servername\sharename\backendname.mdb path.

Thanks. Phil.

There's code in the Developer Solutions sample database... see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/248674/en-us... that you can adapt, to
simplify the change. It is for a single backend MDB, but shouldn't be a
real problem to modify for multiple ones.

I don't know about mapping a local folder to a UNC name -- that'd be a
"platform" or "O/S" question, I guess.

You can write code to do the linking for you. Here at work we have a
form that shows all the development databases available, and all the
production databases available. We just choose which we want to link
to and press a button. The linking is all done in code, and it only
takes a moment. This way we can go from test data to field data and
back again when we need to test a new function or form.

I'd quote you, but I'm not so much of a loser that I'm going to go
looking for your posts.

Besides, it was useful for the OP to know it can be done. Which, I
believe, makes you SPNAK'D!

I'm fine with that, as long as you're fine with "Arno The Loser Who

"Dick Breath". Whichever you prefer.

Posts like this make me miss Don Mellon. At least he had a good grasp

your hat size.

For the record, my hat size is "Medium".

The quote was from a very recent post of you (only 2 days ago) ...
Apparently you don't know or (want to) remember what you post here ??

FYI: If I think it's useful I *will* track down old posts indeed.

That quote was GROUNDBREAKING...

Can't be done unless you name a machine on your home network with
the same name as the server and create shares accordingly.
