Working with linked tables

Dear reader,

Working with linked tables gives me some troubles.

Both mdb's, frond-end and back-end are in deferent folders but on a stand
alone pc delivers an reasonable response time say good. In case both mdb,s
are stored on a server the response time of the frond-end mdb is faraway
from acceptable. If I import the linked tables in the frond-end mdb on the
server the response time is coming back to acceptable. So fare I can
understand know the bath response on the server is because of the linked
tables. But I do not understand way the response on a stand alone PC working
with linked tables is good and the same combination on a server is working
very poor.

Is there someone who can tell me about this phenomenon and how to solve
this.

Thanks for any help.

Kind regards,

Because the way Access, or any file-server type database, works, all the
retrieval, manipulation, and update is done on the user's machine, no matter
where the database application or tables are located. The server is used
just as though it were your local hard drive -- and 100 MBPS (high speed
Ethernet) is a poor substitute for a local hard drive. When both the front
end (application) and back end (tables) are on the server, every database
object has to be fetched across the (relatively) slow network.
