Simple MS Access Update ... Wont Update

Hi,

For some reason, when I put this query in all it does is give me the
old value and doesn't subtract the value by 1. I'm not new to SQL but
this is quite odd.
UPDATE Rental_Line_Items SET Rental_Line_Items.Days_Left =
(Rental_Line_Items.Days_Left-1)
WHERE (((Rental_Line_Items.Returned_Date) Is Null));
