Database size increase

Hi there,

Is there any reason why my db would almost double in size after I
copied everything to a new db after my old one became corrupted? Is it
anything to worry about?

Thanks - David

In the new database:

1. 1. Uncheck the boxes under:
Tools | Options | General | Name AutoCorrect
Explanation of why:
http://allenbrowne.com/bug-03.html

2. Compact: Tools | Database Utilties | Compact.

3. Then decomile. Enter something like this at the command prompt while
Access is not running. It is all one line, and include the quotes:
"c:\Program Files\Microsoft office\office\msaccess.exe" /decompile
"c:\MyPath\MyDatabase.mdb"

4. Compact again.

In some versions, you may still see a small increase in size, but not a
doubling.

Hi Allen,

Will doing this cause me problems if I rename a table/field or
anything, or should I only do it when my database is finished?

Thanks - David

Do it now.

Only in rare conditions (when the database is already compromised) will
those steps cause things to get worse.

In any case, make a copy of the mdb file before applying the steps, so you
can always go back.
