Import Corrupts DB?

Something's going on locally with my Access 2000.

Whenever I import an object from another .MDB, it damages the receiving DB to
the point where I have to rebuild from the last backup. Repair/Compact doesn't
work.

Whole objects disappear, and when a compile is attempted the message "Error
accessing file. Network connection may have been lost." appears.

Anybody been here?

Service packs? A2K was very buggy.

Try creating a new blank database and import all objects
from the old one.
You must import Import/Export Specs (if any) together
with the tables.
Compact + Repair & best whishes.

I used to have this problem when I was trying to make upgrades on one mdb a
different computer running a different (newer) Access version. I would do
as you did, and import a form that I had created on one mdb, and it would
hose the target mdb. It *did not* seem to matter if I was importing only
forms with compatible code.

My solution was to stop exporting/importing forms, reports, and modules.
Eventually, both computers got the same Access version, and the problem no
longer exists, but I still back up the target mdb before any exports of
objects.

Hi, Pete.
Something's going on locally with my Access 2000.

Whenever I import an object from another .MDB, it damages the receiving DB
Do all of these other circumstances apply:

1.) The imported object has a code module (a form, report, or module
object); and

2.) The VBA code was not compiled prior to closing the database
application; and

3.) MS Office 2K SP-3 has not been installed yet on at least one of the
computers that has opened this database application and run the VBA code;
and

4.) That computer also has one of the MS Office XP or MS Office 2003
applications or Visio 2002 installed.

Please see this Knowledge Base article concerning a nasty bug:

Bingo!..... Access 2003. (along with Access 2.0 and Access 97...)

Hi, Pete.

Sorry to hear that. At least you know what the problem is, and you can
prevent it from happening in the future by installing MS Office 2K SP-3.
Your current VBA code is corrupted, though, because VBA 6.2 (from Access
2003) isn't compatible with VBA 6.0 (from Office 2K), but it's already mixed
into your database file. :-(

But you've got backups. Right?

The loss is no biggie - my backup practices verge on the clinically-paranoid.

It was more the inconvenience of not being able to pull chunks of existing apps
into a new app.

SP3 is installing as I write this.

If the problem persists, I'll just uninstall Access 2003.

Thanks for the tip - saved me beaucoups time and trouble.

Not to turn into a tarbaby on you, but while I'm at it.....

Somewhere in a similar timeframe I lost the ability to drag an Access 2000 .MDB
to an icon that starts Access 2000. Doubleclick the .MDB, no problem....but
dropping on an icon does not work.

Same thing seems to hold for other apps.

SP3 seems to have fixed it - as advertised.

Another thing: this box is now *fast* when working w/MS Access files.
Before, I thought it was time for a system drive format/rebuild it was getting
so slow.

Agree with other posts. Appears you don't have SP3 installed with the latest
