Hi Bruno

If they're both originals (not upgrades) how much do you want for them?
I live in Cheltenham UK.

Why do you want those versions.

You can get Access 97 on Ebay for $60 Canadian (or about 25 Pounds).

I have v1.0 8 floppies
upgrade to 1.1 4 floppies
upgrade to 2.0 8 floppies
SP1 for v2.0 2 floppies

Two originals boxes in very good conditions.
But I'm not prepared to sell them.
I could send you a copy by e-mail.

I have 2.0 in my box of old stuff... but on 5.25 disks (10)

Do you still have a 5.25 floppy drive?

As many as you can send would be excellent. I need them for work as our
present software has been corrupted. Can you send them compressed? I
have winrar for .zip or.rar files

Many thanks for your help. Is there anything you need I might have?

No I don't. However, Bruno (above) has some floppies which should do the
trick. Many thanks for your offer anyway. Apologies for the delay in
replying but I was watching the end of the Sunday Night Browns v Ravens
match (what a finish!)

Ok Steve,
take away XXX from my address and send me
your e-mail address.

I've 22 x 3.5 FDs.
Here the transmission code:
101 to 108 for v1.0
111 to 114 for upgrade to v1.1
201 to 208 for upgrade to v2.0
211 to 212 for SP1 for v2.0

Hoping my FDs are still readable.

Please don't wait for them tonight.
Ciao
Bruno

Bruno,

I caution that the disks you might copy to send to Steve are still under
copyright, and that making a copy for someone else would be a violation of
copyright. Of course, Microsoft might not catch you, but you increased the
chances they will by posting your intent in an international newsgroup.

There was a webiste that specialized in selling old software, and I went
looking for it, but it's gone. I googled for Lotus 1-2-3, dBase, etc -
nowhere did I find these old versions. My guess is that original Access 2.0
diskettes may be actually worth some real money now. I wouldn't be quick to
give them up either.

You could check for recently-sold items on eBay to see what they are selling
for. Within the past year or two, there was a similar question, and the
person reported back that he'd bought the Access 2.0 disks (with manuals)
for about US$15. "Past performance is no guarantee of future...", especially
on an auction site. <G>

I could understand if we were talking about a recent version, but 2.0 is
10 years old, MS no longer support it or sell it so they stand to lose
nothing by this transaction.

"Freely distributing" Access 2.0 (which is, for many purposes, still a
perfectly usable software tool -- unless you want to try to secure your
database objects) could conceivably cost Microsoft sales of the current
version. Microsoft holds the copyright and that copyright has not expired,
thus they could go after someone who was violating the copyright. Whether
they _would_ take such a view, and take such an action, I couldn't say --
only that they _can_ do so, should they decide to.

And, just for the record, whether Microsoft chose to pursue the matter or
not, making a copy of copyrighted material for use by someone else, is
illegal -- that is, not only subject to civil action for damages, but a
criminal act under US law.

Think of it this way. I'm sure you are proud of the database you have
written. It would be a shame if someone just copied it and gave it out to
any potential clients depriving your of your just revenue (even if you did
write it 10 years ago). Why should you not benefit from its sale!!! You
should appreciate this being a developer.

I do, but if I wanted revenue from it, I would support it too, or at
least give the person the oppotunity to buy it from me if they wanted to
support it themselves. Do MS at least give people a chance to pay them
for Access 2.0 if it's wanted? I doubt it, they'd stick by their guns
and want them to fork out for Access 2003 even though they might not
have the hardware to run it.

I'm sure the OP would love to pay MS for the latest version and have it
upgrade all his v2 databases as if like magic, just like it says on the
tin but we all know it doesn't work that way.

So my point is, there is a need for old software (which the OP probably
already paid for once but has since lost the install disks), MS won't
sell them to him, what choice does he have left?

Buy a still-shrinkwrapped-new copy of the old software (I occasionally see
them at swap meets and at auction sites) or a complete used copy. Perfectly
legal, perfectly moral, probably pretty cheap, and, if he lost his
originals, not Microsoft's fault.
