How do I prevent other people from using the dll's I create? I looked at identity permissions but it looks like those are more for identifying an assembly. Any help would be great. Thanks!!

In the Assembly Load Trace, the error: Publisher policy file is not found comes up. Is this a problem with locating the assembly? Is a publisher policy file required or even necessary as long as the assembly can be found and loaded? Thanks! Tim

Whenever I run VS.NET 2003, my CPU usage sits on 100%, with total memory usage at 330MB. The CPU stays at 100%, even before any projects are opened (on the start page) and for the rest of the session. This somehow leads to me getting system alarms from my motherboard. Is there something running in the background which takes up all this CPU...

I have .NET 2003 installed on my Windows XP PC and about 50% of the time, the PC locks up when a Project is tried to be opened. I see that the DEVENV.EXE reaches the mid to high 60,000 KB point and the ASPNET_WP.EXE starts to build and then the PC completely locks up. I do have .NET 2002 installed as well, but in a completely different...

Whenever I paste HTML code into the .Net IDE, it automatically adds an ID attribute for HTML tags in my page that don't already have one. Is there any way to stop this behaviour? Before you ask why: a) It increases the download time of the page (yes I know it's not by much) without adding any functionality.

In Visual Studio .NET IDE font settings (Tools, Options, Environment \ Font and Colors), some installed fonts are not listed. And funnily, when you choose different selections in "Show settings for:" drop down, different fonts are missing or listed. For example, for Text Editor, you can choose the MS Sans Serif font, but for Dialogs and Tool...

I was at the VS.NET product launch and they discussed this in depth. NO, they aren't dropping .NET. THey are just changing the branding. .NET Server for instance sounded Lame and the focus groups hated it. Wait until the Hears Windows 2003 Server which is what you have to call it now. Who knows what they'll finally call it (Lord knows...

At the risk of sounding like a Big 5 consultant, "It depends". 1) Strongly typed datasets rock, they are faster than untyped, use intellisense... but your reason for wanting to use them is important. I use them every day of my life, but I also don't use them every day of my life and there are reasons for both. 2) How much of your...

Depending on how you deploy, an App.Config file might do the trick. You can specify the connection string there, and you can edit it programatically if need be. In my experience, the GAC is a great tool, but it's for totally decoupled objects, or at least ones that have configurable properties. But a config file can hold this stuff, be...

If you download the code for MS Press Microsoft .NET Compact Framework by Wigley and Wheelwright in Chapter 11 there's code to handle this. If you haven't bought the book----TRUST ME, BUY IT. In particular the irDAListener class should do what you need. I can send you some of the code we used to accomplish this, but it's essentially what...

WebConfig is made for storing such constants but there are other methods as well. You can create a Module in VB.NET or a class with Static Members in C# and query your DB at the onset and populate these fields there. In one case you change Web.Config when you want to make changes, in the other you change you DB fields. Since ADO.NET is...
