Using PHP to discover mysql database tables

I have a web program where I want to connect to my database and
discover the tables within the database. Then select a table and
discover the column names, their types, and lengths.

Thanks in advance.

See this page for those and many other things. I also suggest you to
study the manual more, because it actually gives you answers faster than
anyone in here, if you just know how to search.

http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.mysql.php

These are propably the functions that you are looking for:
mysql_list_fields()
mysql_list_tables()
