Witty subject aside, I have an issue... shouldn't ™ or it's numerical
equivilent ™ be language independent? Such that if the language of the
document is set to "fr" it would be the MC instead of the TM? Or is there a
french equivilent that I'm not familiar with?

I have a page with images that the user can drag from one frame to
another. I need them to see a "ghost image" of the image they are
dragging, while the original stays put. I use the onmousemove event
to keep the ghost image under the mouse pointer. There are three
problems:
(1) if the ghost image is dragged so it is partially off the...

About once a week, I post an FAQ pointer in this newsgroup

1. To keep regulars from having to post the standard answers to standard
questions again and again; if you have a standard question, you might
save yourself some time by first reading the available material for

As I read the spec, I need _either_ data= and type= _or_ classid=
and codetype=. I've tried it both ways and neither works. I googled,
but was overwhelmed with results and none of them seemed hopeful
(probably because I don't see how to frame a query specifically
enough).

I've just given one of my sites (www.wealdbroadband.co.uk) an overhaul.
Anyone know if there is a way of fixing text at a certain relative
position down a page? I'd like the "(c) 2003 ..." notice to appear at
the same place as you go through the pages, but it varies if you alter
the window width and cause a line to wrap/unwrap.

Hello all,
I'm trying to convert some files from html into xhtml with HTML Tidy, GUI
version. It does a great job, except that it uncurls all the quotation
marks, single and dubble. There seems to be no difference between the
various options for character sets (I use UTF-8). How can I keep my smart
quotes?
Thanks, Dirk

I need a vertical menu with maybe 10 links on it. The menu will run the full
length of the screen, and will consist of 10 large boxes with large-ish text
for the links.
These links need to be large and responsive (idiot-proof) so that the
IT-phobic users can navigate quickly. Note on Context: the page is on an
intranet system, and these...

Hello,
I am told I shouldn't use tables for anything but tabular data. I'm
looking for a way to correctly align form fields using DIVs. With
tables, I would do the following:
<TABLE>
<FORM>
<TR><TD>Field 1:</TD><TD><input type=text></TD></TR>
<TR><TD>Field 2:</TD><TD><input type=text></TD></TR>
</FORM>

I'd like to alternate the rows in a table between having a shaded
background and being transparent to the background.
It's a table of people's names, phone numbers, and beeper numbers. So,
by having alternate rows be shaded, it will make it easier to read
which number in the leftmost column belongs to the name in the
rightmost column.
