When I replaced older <IMG ALIGN=RIGHT ...> tags with a CSS definition
<IMG class=right ...>
xxx.css:
IMG.right { BORDER: 0; align: right }
I notice that the effect is NOT the same. While in the past the text was flowing smoothly around the picture
on the right side there is now a hard cut: Text, then picture below with white...

hi,
I discovered recently, the hard way, that adding padding-right or
padding-left to a <tdadds to the width of <td>!!
so how do I add left- or right-padding to a <tdwithout adding to the
width of it (short of putting a div inside each <tdand making it a
specific width?)
what's the point of "padding" property if instead of adding just...

So I've been using CSS for a year now pretty much only as a
replacement for FONT tags. I know you can do a LOT more with them,
though. Like, eliminate the use for tables.
Are there any good Web sites for the newbie to semi-beginner on using
CSS beyond just font attributes?
Thanks for any suggestions!!

if I should buy something like Dreamweaver or Frontpage or try to
develop the web pages directly using HTML and a text editor. I have
not had experience building web pages but have had several years...

Hi all,
Thanks to Els from another post I got my CSS hover-overs working in IE,
Firefox, and about everything else I've tried. Problem is the CSS
hover overs are VERY choppy in IE while very smooth in everything else.
Any ideas???

SInce many years, I have a web site that allows
to download a 1100 page physics textbook for free.
I recently redesigned the layout. Unfortunately,
now it looks different
in Firefox and Safary on one hand (all ok in these cases)
and in IE on the other hand.
On PC-IE, the navigation columns are partially hidden.
I have no idea why. Could...

Hi all
I would like to create a simple two column layout - navigation on the
left and content on the right. I would like the columns to have a fluid
width so they can grow and shrink according to the size of the text and
the browser window. However, I do not want the content column to span
the entire available width of the page (minus the...

Argh. I've no idea where to start with this one. Take a look at:
http://tranchant.plus.com/notes/cable-wrap
The problem occurs on all pages, but you need a fairly long page to
demonstrate it.
I've recently added dynamically-generated next/prev/up/start links, and
a few "common" links to the header bar. Works fine in Firefox (fixed...

I have an odd problem with a 2-column page set in a 2-column table.
The right-hand column is meant to act like a sidebar and is relatively
narrow at 160px.
The problem is that the display of some lines of the text content in
the sidebar is corrupted (in IE6 under Windows 98 and 2000). There's
only text content in this column without any...
