C# or VB

My boss has asked me to come up with some plusses to do our next project in
c# over vb. Are their any good articles that I can look at to make my cake
hold water?

Technical reasons are irrelevant, so you need to come up
with business reasons, i.e., which one is cheaper.

Part of the cost will be "training".

Part will be programmer preference, being expressed in
"enthusiasm" or its alternative, "hate".

Another cost will be tools.

And it depends on the project.

Good point. Well this is a web app that most of the programmers are doing
asp/vbscript, so it seems to be more adventitious to go vb.net

negatory there good buddy

My software house moved from VB6 to C#. The general opinion here is that
DotNet was so differn't from VB6 that it really made little difference that
the language was differn't. the only significant difference are syntax and
keywords which are literally learnt in a couple of hours.

Hi,

Well, I came from the same background and I jumped to .net in c# , it was
easy cause I had a background in c++ , not much though.

It depends of what your developers feels more confortables with.

technically both are in the same level, you can do the same things in vb.net
& c# almost all the times.

cheers,

Its a lifestyle decision, whatever your developers feel happier with.

I went from ASP and VBScript straight to C# and haven't had any problems.

I have a Computer Science background and, in the distant past, was a C
programmer (among many other things), so my experience may be different than
some, but I'd suspect that most ASP developers will have no difficult using
C# if they give it a try.

You may find some enthusiasm one way or the other, if you ask the team what
they want to use. That would be the factor I would decide on.

Gaak! My experience says it should be called VBScRipped!

Either C#or VB.NET will be a monumental improvement.
You'll even get to work in an IDE that allows some debugging.

As MS says, you'll write 70% less code. The problem is,
you'll have to find out for yourself _which_ 70%.

You'll be trading the tediousness of VBS for "the learning curve".
*I* really prefer the latter.
