Merge Replication

I am trying to build a merge replication. I created publisher and
distributer at the same machine. I created PUSH Subscribtion. However,
I am getting an error from Agent
"The process could not connect to Subscriber 'MARSHWREN'."
and from Data Source

"Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONY MOUS LOGON'."

If someone can help me to solve this problem I really appreciate it

The SQL Servers need to have security contexts that make sense to each
other. If you leave them running as localsystem you'll get errors like
this. MS recommends you change the services to run as Domain accounts,
with both servers as part of the domain. I have also used local accounts
with identical usernames and passwords with success. I'm not sure exactly
what security permissions need to be set; basically I have both the
MSSQLSERVER and SQLSERVERAGENT services on both machines running as
Domain (or identical local) accounts with admin privledges on both
machines; however this is probably overkill. You can probably get away
with making sure both accounts have run as service permissions along with
permission to any network shares holding snapshots and directories used
by sql server - and this would be more secure.

I'm sure someone else here can give you more detail info but this might
get you going in the right direction.

Is it the same error? Did you make sure the domain account had
sufficient priviledges on each box? "Login failed for user 'NT
AUTHORITY\ANONY MOUS LOGON'." really seems to indicate a security context
problem and that it's not trying to log in as a domain account. Look in
BOL for the sp_adddistpubli sher (or MSDN, or just sp_helptext it). This
procedure has some parameters (@security_mode , @trusted, etc) which define
how the authentication should happen. You may need to adjust these values
(or if you are using enterprise manager to set things up, determine how it
is choosing these values and change your use of their wizards
accordingly). Also just for now I would create a local account on each
computer with the exact same name and password and make it an
administrator on each and then set the MSSQLSERVER and SQLSERVERAGENT to
run as that account. This will simplify things and remove any external
variables which could be causing a problem (for instance if your domain
authentication machine was down, or domain permissions misset). Once you
get things up and running you can change it back to a domain account and
straighten out any domain related issues.

Thanks again Dave;

I realized that this error was coming from nature of the replication.
Merge Replication needs to have administrator to be logged on the
machine. So I solved that part. My rpoblem is now I have set up the
replication it is working on the same machine however the problem is
the client machine. We want the client machine to work off line. When I
created the connection to the server it is working as a duplicate, so
if I shut down or close the server I cannot open my subscription
account. I am looking for a solution that if you can help me
appreiciate that

Hi, We have setup a publisher and a distributor in SQL 2000 running SP3. Alongwith this we have setup a merge replication agent and its running successfully inside the same network. I allow anonymous subscriptions and the merge publication works successfully for anonymous pull subscriptions also. Now i am trying to setup the same scenario to setup replication over the Internet using FTP. I have created a FTP site and given certain...

Are there any standard approaches used to purge records from database in merge replication senario ? We are using merge replication between two sql server 2000 databases. These databasess have differnt purging frequencies ( purging frequency of subscriber database is 6 month where as that of publisher is year). Is there anyway to purge data from subscriber and publisher without getting these deletion reflected in replication ( basically...

One of the table that is in a merge replication somehow is missing an index. Strangely, only the table in one of the subscriber of the merge replication is missing the index; another subscriber and the publisher of the merge replication don't have this problem. How should I add the missing index back to that table? My understanding is that making structural change on a table that is in merge-replication is different from making change on...

I have a product that sits on a main server and wish to implement functionality to allow salesmen to come along, pick up a snapshot of the database, go away and maybe modify/add to it and then come back and "synchronise" their data. I'm reading up on Merge Replication for this purpose. But anyway, I created a publisher on my server and it went away and generated a "rowguid" column on all of my tables (my tables all have an Identity...

We have a situation almost exactly like that in the MS documentation vis a vis peer-to-peer replication. We have three servers and three user groups, one each in Chicago, New York, and Bermuda. Because of our business practices, we are fairly confident that only one group will be updating a given record at any one time but the users will be updating their own local database servers and those updates must appear on all three servers....

Hi, I have an issue with my replication at the moment. I will try to describe the scenario accurately. I am using MS SQL 2000 SP4 with Merge Replication. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
