Re: which datastructure for fast sorted insert?

Use a list, and the bisect module to keep it sorted:
That's worth doing if you need the data to be sorted after each insert.
If the OP just needs the data to be sorted at the end, using a data
structure with fast inserts (like a set) and then sorting at the end will
likely be faster.

Hello, I'm writing a function that updates an array. That is, given an array, change each element. The trick is this: I can't change any elements until I've processed the entire array. For example, the manner in which I update element 1 depends on several other (randomly numbered) elements in the array. So, I can't change an element until I've figured out how every element changes.

Hello, I have an application that requires a collection that is sorted by a double field first, and then by a long field. So, lets say I have an class that has 2 fields called time, priority. I want to put a bunch of those classes into a collection and have that collection always stay sorted by time first, then priority. The last object in the list should be the lowest time, highest priority object, etc, for easy picking.

Hi, I am programming a search catalogue with 200000 items (and growing). I am currently using the SQL Server 2000 fulltext engine for this task but it does not fit the requirements anymore. The products typically do have a verbose name, "canadian superapples: red tasty juicy macintosh apple from toronto" and the like. If a customer is looking for "canadian apple" this product needs to match, but also if he is looking for "juicy mac".

I have to load about 10000 possible file names into a list and must have thems sorted alphabetically, including the file information. At this moment, in conventional C++, I use a sorted file strng list with a binary search to add the file name at the correct location, this way it is very fast. I but I created my own string list. So here is my question: Does C# or the .NET framework have such a sorted list that I can add the items during...

Hi, for my current application, I need a linked list in which I can access and walk through at highest speed possible - adding/deleting/inserting elements can be as slow as necessary. Now, which template out of the C/C++ standard library should I use for this - std::list? Or is there a better implementation out there? thanks Peter

Hi, I need some type of array/list/... In which I can store objects together with a unique key. The most important thing is performance: I will need to do the whole time searches in the list of given keys. Which datastructure will be best suited for this? A Hashtable? The list may contain upto 10^12 items, bit more proably most of the time +- 10^9 of even 10^6... Thanks a lot in advance,

Hi all Short version of my problem: i have a Datagrid (Flexgrid from ComponentOne) with a Datatable as source. I need to search a row in the datatable, using a primary key column in the datatable, and then figure out wich row this currently is in the Datagrid. This should probably be done using the currency manager for speed reasons. For the live of me, i can't figure out how to locate the row very fast

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
