Coding Standards and Guidelines

Does anyone know of a book for C# .NET on coding
standards and guidelines? My company is in the process
of defining this stuff as we move to C# .NET.

I could swear I picked up a book like this in a technical
bookstore, but now I can't find one searching Amazon.com
or anywhere else.

By the way, I've seen the documentation Microsoft has in
their best practices section. That stuff is good, but
I'm also looking for a book.

Thanks,
Todd

It's not a book, but in addition to our best practices document, you could check out FxCop and see what kinds of rules that enforces. You can find
FxCop here ... http://www.gotdotnet.com/team/fxcop

Hi, I am fairily new to Python, but I am really liking what I am seeing. My team is going to re-design some automation projects, and we were going to use Python as our programming language. One of the things we would like to do, since we are all new to the language, is to define a set of guidelines and best practices as our coding standards. Does anyone know where I can get some information about what the community is doing? Are there...

Does anyone know of a document that Microsoft produces that has the suggested coding standards for naming tables in a Database, fields in a database, objects in a VB project and so on? Maybe one for SQL and one for VB? Thanks!

Hi, So far, I've found tons of documents describing recommended coding standards for C#, but not a single piece on VB.NET yet. Anybody here knows such a coding standards guideline on VB.NET and minds sharing with us ? Thanks in advance.

I'm never quite sure whether to use "this." or not when referring to fields or properties in the same class. It obviously works just fine without it but sometimes I wonder if using this. consistently may make the code easier to understand for someone else, etc. Using "this." makes it immediately clear, for example, that the variable being referred to is a member of the same class and is not declared in the method as a local variable. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
