4.0.14 install problem: mysqld crashes

Description: I've recently compiled mysql 4.0.14 on redhat 8.0.
The installation fails, however, when running mysql_install_d b.
I've attached a transcript below.

I gather from searching the 'net that this isn't an entirely
unusual thing to happen, and is likely the result of some
misconfiguratio n on my part, or perhaps a version incompatability
with my libc. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any concrete suggestions
on how to get past it.

I've studied the installation instructions pretty closely,
experimented with various compilation flags. I just keep getting
the same results.

This should be a pretty vanilla installation. Can someone please
point me in the direction of figuring out what I'm doing wrong?
How-To-Repeat: Geez ... how *not* to repeat it :)

mysqld got signal 11;
This could be because you hit a bug. It is also possible that this binary
or one of the libraries it was linked against is corrupt, improperly built,
or misconfigured. This error can also be caused by malfunctioning hardware.
We will try our best to scrape up some info that will hopefully help
diagnose
the problem, but since we have already crashed, something is definitely
wrong
and this may fail.

key_buffer_size =8388600
read_buffer_siz e=131072
max_used_connec tions=0
max_connections =100
threads_connect ed=1
It is possible that mysqld could use up to
key_buffer_size + (read_buffer_si ze + sort_buffer_siz e)*max_connecti ons =
225791 K
bytes of memory
Hope that's ok; if not, decrease some variables in the equation.

where mysqld died. If you see no messages after this, something went
terribly wrong...

/usr/local/mysql/libexec/mysqld --bootstrap --skip-grant-tables --basedir=/u
sr/local/mysql --datadir=/usr/local/mysql/var --skip-innodb --skip-bdb
Installation of grant tables failed!

Examine the logs in /usr/local/mysql/var for more information.
You can also try to start the mysqld daemon with:
/usr/local/mysql/libexec/mysqld --skip-grant &
You can use the command line tool
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql to connect to the mysql
database and look at the grant tables:

shell> /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -u root mysql
mysql> show tables

Try 'mysqld --help' if you have problems with paths. Using --log
gives you a log in /usr/local/mysql/var that may be helpful.

The latest information about MySQL is available on the web at
http://www.mysql.com
Please consult the MySQL manual section: 'Problems running
mysql_install_d b',
and the manual section that describes problems on your OS.
Another information source is the MySQL email archive.
Please check all of the above before mailing us!
And if you do mail us, you MUST use the /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqlbug
script!

I've tried this with both the RPM's and the source code and I have the same problem. I'm running Slackware Linux v8.1, and on the last attempt I built mysql from the source code by doing the following: (after unzipping the tarball) ../configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql make make install scripts/mysql_install_db

Hey folks, before posting to the bugs-list I would like to try it here to get some help :). Every now and then MySQL-4.0.13 crashes on my Dual-Athlon-MP-machine. When installing the rpms (or the tar file) onto Red Hat Enteprise Linux AS Beta 1 (Taroon), we get the follwing error: Installing all prepared tables /usr/bin/mysql_install_db: line 1: 7690 Segmentation fault /usr/sbin/mysqld --bootstrap --skip-grant-tables --basedir=/ --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --skip-innodb --skip-bdb Installation of grant tables failed The log file simply shows a start and a stop of the server.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
