Discussion: How does Zigbee compare with other wireless protocols in smart home applications?

Dear forum friends,

With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some things very well.

I hope that in this forum we can discuss the following issues in depth:

What are the main advantages and limitations of Zigbee technology in smart homes? How does it compare to Z-Wave, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth?
What are the technical challenges and considerations when actually deploying a Zigbee network?
How compatible are Zigbee devices? What are some recommended strategies or best practices when selecting equipment and building systems?
For those smart home environments that have high security requirements, what is the security performance of Zigbee?

Hope to get some in-depth insights from experienced friends. Whether it is your personal experience, industry insights, or related technical analysis, you are very welcome to share it.

We look forward to your active participation and exciting discussions!

Thank you everyone for your time and contributions!

How does Ruby compare to Python?? How good is DESIGN of Ruby compared to Python? Python's design is godly. I'm wondering if Ruby's is godly too. I've heard it has solid OOP design but then I've also heard there are lots of weird ways to do some things kinda like Perl which is bad for me. Any other ideas?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
