Have jpeg files that have been saved as xml, how do I retrieve them?

Complete novice at xml... Had jpegs on a USB key that somehow got connverted to being type xml, and now I can't open the images. The file sizes are ok so I think the raw pictures are there, just can't see them.

Just need to get the pics back... Have obviously tried to open the files in all sorts of picture viewers and browsers, for example in IE8 get the following error

Un nombre comenzaba con un carácter no válido. Error al procesar el recurso file:///C:/temp/FOTOS 2/DSCF0003.JPG.XML. Líne...

Am running windows Vista.

Many thanks

I bet these are not pictures but only some informations about them stored in files which names are similar.

Are those files large or small? Look inside them and you'll find what informations are there.

Most raw images these days use XML to store processing information about the images, such as exposure, saturation, white balance, etc.

Unfortunately it sounds like you have the XML for the files, but the files themselves are missing.

Try going to:

Tools > View Options...

In here you'll see an option called 'Show hidden / system files' I believe. I'm currently on my mac so I an verify. Regardless...

Once you've selected to view hidden folders, look for a folder on your USB key called '.Trashes', or any other form of 'Trash' or 'Recycle' etc..

In this folder you can check to see if there are any undeleted remnants of your images.
