DITA api and XML

Hi,

I am working in a java project. I need to create xml and send it to web service.

I have been told to use dita api to create xml.
But I have no idea about DITA. I know how to create
xml using DOM in java.

My question is that it is possible to create xml, using DITA (like DOM)?

Thanks
