count() and generate-id()

39
Dear all,

I have some xslt reporting functionality that currently uses generate-id to group data. This works fine but is very slow.

While googling, I found that the 'count()' clause can do the same thing but faster and so have been experimenting with that.

My original code was the following:

<xsl:for-each select="rep_base[generate-id()=generate-id(key('kteam', @team)[@plant=$pfiltfld])]">

Next I tried this:

<xsl:for-each select="rep_base[count(.| key('kteam', @team)[1])=1 and @plant=$pfiltfld]">

... which seemed to work OK (it was fast) but returned an incomplete result.

I googled some more and was told that the correct syntax for the filtering on a count() clause should be the following ...

<xsl:for-each select="rep_base[count(.| key('kteam', @team)[@plant=$pfiltfld][1])=1]">

... so I tried that but found that it ran for a long time and returned records that I didn't require/request (many times over as if the result of a cartesian loop).

This makes me think that there is something wrong with my syntax and so I am hoping that someone out there can take a quick look and maybe spot the problem?

Regards,
Alan Searle

PS: In this particular example I want to group on team and filter on plant.
