I have an interesting problem under Windows 7 Home Premium version - while my system is sitting idle:
- I see that I have slightly over 25% CPU consumption.
- System is AMD CPU with 4 cores.
- As a user account, I see roughly fifteen processes, with a total CPU consumption of two to three percent (2%-3%).
- Invoking "Show processes from all users", I see that the process scvhost.exe is consuming 25% of the available CPU time.
- Image path is "C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe".
- Command line is "C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe -k netscvs".
- Memory (Private working set) started at ~1.8Gbyte, and is now ~1.0Gbyte.
To me this looks like svchost is infinite looping on one core (of four), or is sitting on a select() call.
Has something poked a virus through into services?
- Yes, I use AVG virus detection, and three full runs have not shown any problems.
What other sorts of problems may I have encountered?
Your help and insight are much appreciated.
Thank You,
Oralloy
