Re-allocating free space partition D: to C: Drive.

I have an asus laptop that comes with a D: partition besides the C: drive where all the operating system files, etc are but i don't want this D: partition because i would like to have all my hard drive memory in C: but when i delete D: partition in disk management it becomes unallocated space only thus partition doesn't disappear entirely, it's just waiting to be allocated again and i tried to extend C: drive but the option appears to be greyed out so i can't use it and i've seen that i could use a program to accomplish this task to re-allocate the free space or unallocated space in C: drive but i would like to know if there is a way to do this without using a third party tool. Windows 8.

Thank you. I was looking for a way to do it without using a third party software but i guess i'll have to go with that.
