application not found on downloads

any pdf or any other kind of download gets the "application not found" msg....how do i fix this...

You either don't have the application installed or it no longer associates the extension with that program.

If it's the former, download and install the application. If it's the latter, you can shift right click the file and go to open with, there's an option to choose a default program so it will recreate the association.
