Accessing Network printer in Windows 7

1,059 1GB
Hi,
My application can open a network printer. It does not required any driver installation or adding printer. it does this in windows XP.

Now in Windows 7 both printing with network printer and adding network printer. is this a bug of Windows 7?

Regards
Me

I found the problem. The machine is really old. driver required for windows 7 is not available. :)

You can always use an generic driver. I normally use a hp laser jet 4 or 5 for my old laser machines and it works great

Is the printer linked via PCl or GDI ? do you have it connected to a print server ?

and what model of printer is it ?

Its connected with USB (how do you connect with GDI?) I will give you the model tomorrow.

Ok GDI is when you connect with a USB and PCL is when you connect a printer direct to the network.
So basically you want to do a pc share of the printer so that a other user can print to it.
This brings me back to my first question is your windows 7 an 32 or 64 bit.

And also are you trying to print from the win 7 to the xp pc?

The pcs are 64 bit(Windows 7). But the printer server machine is 32 bit Windows XP. The printer server is running for long time.

There is your problem, Do you have a 64 bit driver for the model of printer?
If you then share the printer connect to it from the win 7 pc if win 7 installs the printer for you that is great, then after the printer is connected in win 7 (right click ) on the printer go to printer properties /sharing /additional drivers (tik next to the x86, and box will come up asking for a driver point it to the xp 32 bit version of the driver and install, you can try the same on the xp to install a 64 bit driver, after that you should be able to print to the shared printer on the xp box

I already know that. There is no driver for 64 bit or Windows 7 32 bit. NEC is not giving any service either. I was wandering is there any real printer server where I don't have to worry about driver or anything.

the only one is linux , As linux will install its drivers by it self Then you just have to share it to the 64bit pc. I like to use Ubuntu
