Search for words

Hello,

I need a script that will allow me to search for a word, string of words, or characters (such as phone numbers) in .txt or .doc files. I have several thousand files to search through and I need an automated way to do it. I only need the actual text extracted from the document and put into an excel sheet.

Have you attempted anything on this? Do you have a preferred language you're working in? What IDE?
