Why won't Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Work?

I'm getting ready to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I downloaded and installed the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. When I tried to run it, I received the message "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor was unable to reach the Microsoft server for compatibility information. Check your internet connection and try again later."
My internet connection is okay -- I'm able to access bytes.com. I tried to run the Upgrade Advisor several times with the same result.
My wife is able to run the Upgrade Advisor from her computer that runs Windows XP. My wife and I access the internet by way of our home wireless network and a cable modem.
Any suggustions for solving this problem?

A firewall or antivirus could be blocking the connection, or 3rd party software could be getting in the way. Try disabling your firewall and antivirus (remember to turn them back on), and performing a clean boot to stop 3rd party software that may be getting in the way.
